Japanese Film Festival 2020 Plus One [Cancelled]

Following the rise in the daily COVID-19 cases and the extension of the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) in several states, the Japan Foundation, Kuala Lumpur (JFKL) has come to the decision to cancel the annual festival after much consideration and stands firm on the belief that it is best to safeguard the safety and health of our loyal fans and movie-goers. We have put in our best effort to run the annual festival at GSC, including postponing it three times since October 2020. We would like to thank you for your support and we will be keeping you posted on any updates on our future events. Till then, take care and stay safe! 

The annual Japanese Film Festival (JFF) is returning in January 2021 and is set to light up selected Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) nationwide, showcasing 10 titles ranging from a variety of genres ? drama, comedy, action and animation, highlighting the colours of Japan through cinema. One of the titles, ?One Summer Story? will be premiering in Malaysia prior to the release in Japan (expected release in 2021).

JFF 2020 PLUS ONE* will be the first Film Festival to be launched at GSC since the commencement of the Movement Control Order (MCO) back in March 2020.

Audience will also get special gifts by collecting stamps every time they watch a film at JFF.

Following the successful Pre-Festival Event held in September at GSC NU Sentral, a dedicated page on the official JFF 2020 website titled “Remote Films” will be introducing two remote films by Japanese filmmakers who remotely produced short films during the lockdown, and also a video interview with director YUKISADA Isao, director of ?Pigeon? (2016) that was shot in Penang as part of the omnibus film “Asian Three-Fold Mirror 2016: Reflections”. ??????

Leading up to the Japanese Film Festival (JFF) 2020, the Japan Foundation, Kuala Lumpur (JFKL) will be starting off the season with a pre-festival event before the actual festival happens in October. Our annual JFF is returning even stronger with 4 segments happening throughout a 3-month period from September to November.

Kick-starting this special season will be free screenings at GSC NU Sentral on three Saturdays (5, 12 and 19 September) with titles that will definitely touch and tickle your heart.

As the band members enjoy the happiest days in their young lives and prepares to set out on a path of fame and glory, a tragedy takes place, destroying their hopes and spirit. A girl who lives on the U.S. army base suddenly appears with a demo tape of a song.

Yasuaki Shikano is a 34 year old man who suffers from muscular dystrophy since he was 12 years old. He decided to leave the  hospital and live an offbeat life of independence. He hires volunteers to help him but they have to cater to his every whim, especially Hisashi Tanaka, a med school student who he constantly rags on him and even demands a banana in the middle of the night. He then meets Misaki Ando and falls in love at first sight but he doesn?t know that Tanaka and Misaki are a couple. Their lives begin to change soon after.

He seeks the aid of his childhood friend Genemon Takamura, as well as the advice of Oran, the beautiful but headstrong daughter of a former magistrate in charge of relocation; he begins to carry out his mission.
