About The Exhibition
The Japan Foundation Cultural Travelling Exhibition “I Love Sushi” is coming to Malaysia from 14 November to 31 December 2025 at UR-MU @ The Toffee, The Project Room, Level 4.
Organised by The Japan Foundation, Kuala Lumpur (JFKL), co-organised by the Embassy of Japan in Malaysia with UR-MU (Urban Museum Kuala Lumpur), and sponsored by Sushi Hibiki, this exhibition celebrates Japan’s most recognisable dish, sushi as both a work of art and as a window into the nation’s history, culture, and way of life.
Globally known as a refined and healthy cuisine, sushi stands as the archetypal example of washoku, or Japanese cuisine, recognised by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage. “I Love Sushi” offers visitors an engaging look into how sushi evolved from its ancient origins into a global culinary phenomenon through captivating visuals, interactive displays, and digital experiences.
About Chef Saito Sam
Makato Saito Sam, known as chef Saito Sam, plays a pivotal role in promoting enthusiasm for Japanese cuisine and culture within Malaysia. He pioneered Sushi Summit, a Japanese food promotion event that fosters collaboration between fishmongers and fishery businesses within Japan’s Tohoku region while developing Muslim-friendly Japanese menus to make authentic cuisine accessible.
Beginning his professional journey at just 15 in a Tokyo sushi restaurant, Chef Saito Sam has dedicated his life to mastering every aspect of sushi. At age 35, he embarked on a global journey that brought him to Malaysia, where he continues to champion the values of authenticity, ingredient quality, and respect for the people behind the food industry.
