Weekend Japanese Film Show in November Voices of a Distant Star and the Garden of Words

The Weekend Japanese Film Show has been organised by Japan Foundation Kuala Lumpur (JFKL) regularly for over 10 years. The programme takes place every first Saturday of the month and is free of charge. All films are presented in Japanese with English subtitles.

In partnership with the National Academy of Arts, Culture & Heritage (Aswara), the programme is held at the Faculty of Film and Video?s Mini Theatre.

Voices of a Distant Star

Mikako Nagamine and Noboru Terao are two young lovers about to enter high school together. One day, a United Nations space carrier appears above their small city, and Nagamine is drafted to become a pilot of a giant mecha in a war with aliens known as Tarsians. Both attempt to maintain contact via phone, but as Nagamine travels light years away from Earth, their voice mails go from months to years in transmission.

When Takao, an aspiring shoemaker, skips school one day in favor of sketching in a rainy garden, he has no idea how much his life will change when he encounters the mysterious Yukino. The two form an unusual relationship strengthened by chance meetings on rainy days, which is in danger of ending as the rainy season comes to a close.
