The Next Generation Symposium on Japanese Studies 2025

This symposium is open to public!

Are you curious to understand the academic world of *Japanese Studies, a multi-disciplinary field which encompasses studies on Japan’s culture, society, economy, politics, history and more?

Here’s your chance to listen to competing presentations by 14 shortlisted university students of “The Second Japanese Studies Essay Contest and Mentorship Programme 2025”, running since  the 1st of May. Cheer them on, ask questions, and witness the winners announcement ceremony in the morning segment!

In the afternoon, listen to two academic roundtable sessions led by students and prominent academicians as they discuss the evolution of Japanese Studies!

*Japanese Studies is an interdisciplinary field dedicated to the study of Japan’s, culture, society, politics, economy, and history. It encompasses both traditional area studies approaches and contemporary method that situate Japan within regional and global context. Despite common misunderstandings with ‘Japanese Language’, Japanese Studies is a study on its own and is conducted in English and many other languages.
