We are pleased to informed that the Japan Club of Kuala Lumpur (JCKL), the Japanese Chamber of Trade & Industry, Malaysia (JACTIM), the Embassy of Japan in Malaysia and the Japan Foundation Kuala Lumpur (JFKL) in cooperation with the Ministry of Education Malaysia, will be organizing the 5th Japanese language speech contest for secondary school students in Malaysia as last year. This program has been started from April 2004.
The objectives of the above contest are to provide an opportunity for Japanese language learners at secondary school level to express their opinions and thoughts in Japanese as well as to show their skills in the language and to raise awareness and deepen understanding among secondary school students on the importance of intercultural and cross-cultural communication.

(1) Malaysians who are 15 to 18 years old as of 1 April 2008 and have not been to Japan for more than 7days during the period between April 2003 and March 2008.
(2) Previous winners are not eligible.
Studying in any public or private secondary school at the time of application.
(3) A non-native Japanese speaker and neither of his/her parents is Japanese.
Theme – Free
Length – Between 800 and 1,200 words (within 5mins).
The winner of this contest will be invited as the Malaysian representative to ‘The 13th Japanese Speech Award (JSA)’ in Tokyo. JSA is an international Japanese speech contest competed by high school students learning Japanese Language from 13 countries. The program will include Japanese Language workshop, cultural activities, sightseeing, and interactions with other high school students from Japan and the contestants.
In conjunction with the speech contest, we are also selecting two candidates from among the 12 speech contest finalists to attend our “Japan Foundation 2008 Japanese-Language Program for High School Students”- a 15-day study tour program to Japan invited by the Japan Foundation Japanese –Language Institute, Kansai.
For contestants from the normal day schools, Societies, language schools, only one contestant from each secondary school (either public or private) will be accepted. Incomplete application will be rejected. All completed application forms must reach the below secretariat by 31 March 2008.
