Natural Dye Exhibition

Yayasan Warisan Johor, Think City, The Japan Foundation, Kuala Lumpur (JFKL), Kuala Lumpur Natural Dye (KLND) and Natural Indigo Lab & Atelier (NILA) will proudly co-organise “Natural Dye Exhibition” from 1 December 2019 to 26 February 2020 at Galeri Tenun Johor, Johor Bahru.

This exhibition will be showcasing the works from 2 natural dye exhibitions which JFKL and KLND had co-organized earlier in Kuala Lumpur to introduce the beautiful colours of natural dyes produced with natural local materials. “BATIK: EXPLORING NATURAL DYES EXHIBITION” (May 2017) was an attempt to showcase the various colours of natural dyes and its application to wax resist technique of batik, and “BATIK: FROM SEED TO TEXTILE” (March 2019) was on the discovery of the full cycle of batik dyeing with natural indigo starting from cultivation of the plant (indigofera tinctoria) based on the scientific research and practice under the guidance of Ms. Hisako SUMI, a Japanese dye master.

This time, together with Yayasan Warisan Johor and Think City, we are bringing the works to the audience in Johor, hoping for a new collaboration with Galeri Tenun, Johor to happen in the near future.
