Contemporary Dance Performance-“Shoku -Full Version-“

Start Date: 25/5/2005 - End Date: 26/5/2005 ::: Organized By JFKL

The Japan Foundation, Kuala Lumpur proudly brings you a contemporary dance performance by Dance Company Batik from Japan, as part of their Russia (Moscow, Permi) ? Malaysia Tour. In Permi, they will attend renowned ?Diaghilev Festival?.

Dance Company Batik was founded by Ms. Ikuyo Kuroda in April 2002. This time in Kuala Lumpur, they will perform their best piece called ?SHOKU? led by 7 dancers. Shoku has performed at Dance Biennale Tokyo 2002, Korea and Japan Festival. In 2003, the troupe performed at SPAC (Shizuoka Performing Arts Center) Dance Festival 2003, and was awarded the Excellent Work Prize. Besides, they also performed at Toyota Choreography Award 2003, awarded the grand prize and Ms. Ikuyo Kuroda won as the ?Choreographer of the Next Generation?.

Shoku is defined as touch. It is an attempt to express the inner feeling and the physical touching through subversive dance; the faint and frail feel of inside and outside derived by Shoku (touch). The dancers express their feeling of differentiating between the special of themselves and the world by the use of touching.

This performance is supported by Toyota and The Saison Foundation.
