Grants For Japanese Language

1.  JFKL Small Grant

The Japan Foundation Kuala Lumpur offers Small Grant in the field of Japanese language education as follows:

No Program Amount Grant Coverage  Eligibility Deadline
1 Small Grant for International Conference or Seminar on Japanese language Education Not more than RM5,000 Part of the cost for
1) Honorarium,
2) Travel expenses, and
3) Interpreter’s fee
a. Institution of Higher Education or Research Institution recognised by the Malaysian Government
b. Malaysian registered Societies or Bodies related to Japanese language education.
2 months prior to the date of the conference/seminar and 4 months if the proposed speaker is invited from overseas. (Open throughout the year while yearly budget last)
2 Small Grant for Research and Study Activities on Japanese Language Education Not more than RM4,000 Part of the cost for
1) Honorarium,
2) Production of proceedings and reports,
3) Venue and equipment rental, and
4) Journal publication
a. Institution of Higher Education or Research Institution recognised by the Malaysian Government
b. Malaysian registered Societies or Bodies related to Japanese language education.
2 months prior to the commencement of the project. For projects involving publication of journals, application after 31 October, 2013 will not be accepted. (Open throughout the year while yearly budget last)
3 Small Grant for Japanese Language Teaching Materials Not more than RM4,000 Part of the cost for
– purchase of teaching material
Institution of Higher Education or Research Institution recognised by the Malaysian Government 2 months prior to the commencement of the project. (Open throughout the year while yearly budget last)

2. Training in Japan

The centre is a gateway for Malaysian applicants to the Japan Foundation’s training programmes which is open globally. The details of the programmes can be found at the website of the foundation’s headquarters. A summary of programmes below provides you with an idea of our working areas.

This program is designed to provide teachers of the Japanese-language abroad, who are expected to be leaders of the academic world of Japanese-language education in their own countries, with an opportunity to obtain a Master’s degree in Japanese-language education.

2 Advanced Training Program for Teachers of the Japanese-Language
This Program is designed for individuals or teams of up to three people who require more advanced expertise and skills as teachers of Japanese, and have specific challenges they wish to address, or have issues they want to resolve in the teaching of the Japanese language.

3 Long-Term Training Program for Foreign Teachers of the Japanese-Language
This six month program is designed to provide foreign teachers of the Japanese-language who are early in their career with an opportunity to improve their Japanese-language skills and teaching methodology and to deepen their knowledge of Japan.

4 Short-Term Training Program for Foreign Teachers of the Japanese-Language
This two month program is designed to provide teachers of the Japanese-language, who have at least two years of experience in teaching the language, with an opportunity to improve their Japanese-language skills and teaching methodology and to deepen their knowledge of Japan.

Japanese-Language Program for Specialists
5 Program for Specialists in Cultural and Academic Fields
This two/six month program provides specialists (researchers, postgraduate students, librarians, museum curators, etc.) who need a good command of Japanese-language for conducting their field related work and research with an intensive residential training course of Japanese-language.
