Together with Patisatustudio and supported by National Art Gallery Malaysia, JFKL held the “Tanah Timur” Residency Exhibition by Ms. Umibaizurah Mahir, Ms. Chikako Yoshikawa and Ms. Kazuko Uga from July 6 to July 18, 2009 at the gallery space of JFKL.
The idea of this international residency exhibition goes back to the year 2004, when Ms. Umibaizurah met two Japanese artists in Tokoname-City, one of the six traditional kilns in Japan, during the International Workshop of Ceramic Art in Tokoname-City. 5 years after that, their friendship finally blooms as two-week residency production at Patisatustudio and the exhibition of their works produced during the residency.
Patisatustudio in Puncak Alam, which was founded by Mr. Ahmad Shukri Mohamed, one of the top prominent artists in Malaysia is the ideal place for this international residency production project. The studio, which is mainly made of recycled wood building materials, is well designed ergonomically with a comfortable meeting floor and the very calm and friendly atmosphere help artists to develop their creative ideas.
Dr. Mohamed Najib Ahmad Dawa, Director General of the National Art Gallery Malaysia officiated the opening of the exhibition on July 6 and he emphasized the importance of international cooperation that stimulates and promotes activities of artists.
