Key of Life 鍵泥棒のメソッド (UCHIDA Kenji 内田けんじ/2012/128 min)

Struggling actor Sakurai switches identities with a stranger named Kondo who slips and falls at a bathhouse, only to find himself filling the shoes of an elite assassin in the employ of the yakuza. His memory lost in the fall, Kondo meanwhile has to learn to live life anew as an aspiring thespian with the help of Kanae, a marriage-minded young woman he met at the hospital. As the truth about the two men comes to light, they must scramble to resolve the chaos of this topsy-turvy chain of events.

Japan’s master of screwball comedy Kenji Uchida marks his return after a four-year hiatus with a darkly comical tale about three seemingly disparate protagonists bound together by fate. The movie has been hailed by critics and audience alike for its cleverly constructed screenplay, for which it was honoured at the Shanghai International Film Festival, Japan Academy Prize and Kinema Junpo Awards.
