Upon his retirement at 67 years old\, he was diagnosed with terminal stomach cancer. This was an unexpected and grave miscalculation for an often meticulous wheeler and dealer. His filmmaking daughter captures his final days as he threw himself into making an ending note\, a memorandum for the family of the deceased inherent in Japanese society.\nMami?s feature-length debut was a commercial and critical success\, winning film festival prizes in Chicago\, Dubai and Sydney.
