DESCRIPTION:[vc_row css=".vc_custom_1655691680202{margin-bottom: 50px !important;}"][vc_column width="1/6"][/vc_column][vc_column width="2/3"][vc_column_text]\n“時紡TOKITSUMUGI”\n– The Grain of Strands from Some Moments\nAn Exhibition of Kinetic Sculptures by Masato Tanaka\n The Japan Foundation\, Kuala Lumpur and GALERI PETRONAS proudly present “TOKITSUMUGI – The Grain of Strands from Some Moments” an exhibition of kinetic sculptures by Masato Tanaka from 10 April – 13 May 2007.\nShowing for the 1st time ever in Malaysia from 10 April to 13 May 2007\, the exhibition presents a unique display of 12 moving sculptures which combine art and technology to create free movement\, dubbed a ‘scenic movement presentation’. GALERI PETRONAS and the Japan Foundation present this unique exhibition to the public in celebration of Malaysia’s 50th Year of Independence and 50 years of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and Japan.\nMasato Tanaka’s kinetic sculptures are made of materials such as steel and motor.\nIn conjunction with this exciting exhibition\, several interesting public programmes have been lined-up for visitors to the exhibition\, such as a special Artist Talk on Saturday\, 14 April 2007 from 2pm – 3:30pm and a ‘hands-on’ workshop to make kinetic sculptures on 12 May 2007\, from 10am – 12:30pm. They will incorporate the works of Masato Tanaka in their performance in a truly mesmerizing spectacle of movement.\n \nThe first performance held on 9 May 2007\, Wednesday will begin at 6:00pm and include three improv sessions by the trio of dancers.\nMao Arata will be giving a solo performance on 11 May 2007\, Friday from 6:30pm to 7:30pm.\nMasato Tanaka\nkinetic artist / 3－4 dimensional space designer)\nMasato Tanaka was born in 1961 in Yokohama\, Japan. Graduated from Tokyo National University of Fine Arts & Music ( B.A. in Design 1985\, M.A. 1987) Masato set out in various ways of arts (exhibition\, commercial display\, stage art\, etc.) without distinction between design and any arts. Masato creates kinetic installation art that are composed by using some elements of mechanics and the fluctuation rhythm of nature through his own unique style and technique. He has had solo exhibitions in Hong Kong\, Shan Zhen\, Macao and Singapore as well as in Japan. His artworks were also used in various theatre performances including “Spring Day” performed by Pappa Tarahumara at Istana Budaya in 2001.\n\nIntroduction\nCombining art with technological knowledge\, Masato has focused on the creation of a series of “Kinetic Sculptures”that demonstrate that technology not only brings the acceleration of modern life but also contains sense of hidden natural beauty. Although electricity\, motors magnets are important components in Masato’s works\, what creates the major kinetic energy for free movement is nature itself\, such as the focus of wind or gravity. The main theme of Masato’s work is direction of some artistic atmosphere that prompts relaxation & comfort with calling the native latent curiosity of human beings. Masato seeks to promote a concept he calls “playground of one’s eyes”\, using inorganic materials and forms to search for peaceful expression on which the eyes can rest idly for a while\, glancing out from the corners of daily life.
