SUMMARY:The 10th Asian Cartoon Exhibition: “Asian Environmental Issues”
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column width="1/6"][/vc_column][vc_column width="2/3"][vc_column_text]The 10th Asian Cartoon Exhibition is coming. For those who have missed last year’s exhibition\, please do not miss it again this year.\nThe Japan Foundation has been holding The Asian Cartoon Exhibition every year since 1995\, employing the friendly medium of cartoons for introducing Asian societies\, cultures\, and peoples’ ways of life from various perspectives.\nThe theme for this year is “Asian Environmental Issues”. The burdens placed on the environment have serious consequences not only for us living in Asian nations but also everybody all over the world and the entire world needs to tackle them as a shared responsibility.\nIn this exhibition\, 10 leading cartoonists from 10 Asian nations namely Malaysia\,Cambodia\, China\, India\, Indonesia\, Japan\, Korea\, The Philippines\, Thailand and Vietnam have produced a total of 77 new works depicting the environmental as well as for promoting our awareness about our shared responsibility.\nWhile producing works on the environmental problems characteristic of each nation\, the various cartoonists flavored them with unique senses of humor and satire. He attended the Faculty of Royal Fine Art in Phnom-penh\, and worked at the Ministry of Education\, Youth\, and Sport. He has been a cartoonist at the Cambodian-language Rasmei Kampuchea Daily since 1995.\n \nChina – Li Qing\nBorn in 1953. He worked as Senior Staff Writer at Jinan Daily\, an influential Chinese-language daily of Shandong Province. He won the Grand Prix at the 13th Yomiuri International Cartoon Contest in 1991 and the most prestigious award in China’s cartoon world\, Golden Monkey Award in 2002. He received the title of Excellent Technical Expert from the Jinan Municipal Government. Among his collections of works are Li Qing Cartoons in 1991 and Pictures and Stories in 1998. He is a member of the Cartoon Art Commission of the Chinese Association of Fine Artists\, Vice President of Chinese News Cartoon Research Institute\, and Chairperson of Shandong Cartoon Association. His real name is Chen Li Qing.\n \nIndia – Mohd. Irfaan Khan\nBorn in 1966. After working as Staff Editorial Cartoonist at The Economic Times\, an influential English-language daily in India\, and at other publications\, he is currently a cartoonist at the Hindi-language daily Jansatta and Ma-ra-thi-language newspaper Lokmat Samachar. He is producer for the weekly talk show on children’s cartoons Itni Si Baat on Sahara TV. He had solo exhibitions and participated in group cartoon exhibitions in India. His collected works include Punchline in 1998 and My Delhi in 2000.\n \nIndonesia – Jitet Koestana\nBorn in 1967. After working as a cartoonist at the Indonesian-language magazine Humor and weekly tabloid Senior and other publications\, he becomes a freelance cartoonist. He has displayed works domestically as well as in Japan\, Korea\, Italy\, Germany\, Belgium\, etc.\, and has won various awards. He holds the record among cartoonists in his country for having won the most awards at international cartoon contests. His works include Gus Ndul in 1994 and Revolusi in 1990. His hobbies are reading and sleeping.\n \nJapan – Yokota Yoshiaki\nBorn in 1962. He graduated from Faculty of Education at Chiba University. He is a cartoonist for Kyodo News. He is a member of the Japan Cartoonists Association and Vice Chairperson of Japan branch of Federation of Cartoonists Organizations (FECO JAPAN). He showed works at the Year of Turkey in Japan Commemorative Cartoon Exhibition (2001-2004) and received an invitation to visit Turkey. He exhibited at the Festival International du Dessin de presse de I’Humour et de la Caricature held at Saint-Just-le-Martel\, France in 2004. He won Gold Prize at both the 17th and 25th Yomiuri International Cartoon Contests held in 1995 and 2003 respectively.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_column_text]Korea – Kong Bo Hyuk\nBorn in 1954. He graduated from Faculty of industrial Arts at Singu University. After working at the Public Relations Department of Joinus Fashion\, etc.\, he became a freelance cartoonist and illustrator. He won the Award of Excellence of the 2nd Republic of Korea Creative Cartoon Public Subscription Contest in 2004\, he had work that selected in the 26th Yomiuri International Cartoon Contest in 2004 and also won the Lotus Best Cartoon Award of the National Buddhist Cartoon Contest in 2004. He is a member of the Korea Cartoonists Association.\n \nMalaysia – Zuan\nBorn in 1972. He graduated from Kuala Lumpur College of Art. After working as an illustrator at Union 45 and Batey Advertising\, he became a cartoonist for Gempak\, Utopia and other comic magazines. His works published include Mat Gempak in 2002\, Mat Gempak Redux in 2004 and others. His real name is John Pek Teck Leong.\n \nThe Philippines – Elizabeth T. Chionglo\nBorn in 1951. She graduated from Faculty of Fine Arts at University of Santo Tomas. She was a graphic designer at Ministry of Public Works\, Transportation\, and Communications from 1976 to 1979\, and as a cartoonist at the English-language daily Manila Standard\, etc. She is now a cartoonist for the English-language daily Philippine Daily Inquirer. Her respresentative works include Bobita and Loveknots. Loveknots is a cartoon currently serialized in the Philippine Daily Inquirer.\n\nThailand – Thi-wa-wat Pattaragulwanit\nBorn in 1968. He graduated from Faculty of Decorative Arts at Silpakorn University. He is Editorial Cartoonist for the Thai-language daily business paper Krunpthep Thurakip and English-language daily Bangkok Post. He won Third Prize at the ESCAP (UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific) 50th Anniversary Cartoon Exhibition in 1997. He was the illustrator for a translation work by HRH Crown Pricess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn\, Pieng Wandee Wannii Tee Samkan (Small Collection of Chinese and German Literature) in 2005. His hobbies include playing golf.\n \nVietnam – Nhop\nBorn in 1952. He graduated from National Decoration Arts College in Ho Chi Minh City. He is a cartoonist contributing to the Vietnamese-language humor magazine for youths Tuoi Tre Cuoi. He is Representative of Club (an association of cartoonists affiliated with the above magazine) and is a cartoonist and Manager of the Technology and Layout Division of youth newspaper Tuoi Tre.
