SUMMARY:[Application Closed] The Japan Foundation Travel Support for Attendees to the 2017 AAS Annual Conference in Toronto
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row css=".vc_custom_1655946098220{margin-bottom: 50px !important;}"][vc_column width="1/6"][/vc_column][vc_column width="2/3"][vc_column_text]\nThis travel support programme provides assistance to emerging scholars in Asia to attend the Annual Conference of the Association for Asian Studies to be held in Toronto from 16 to 19 March\, 2017.\nOrganised yearly since 1995\, the event is the largest of its kind in North America. Over 3\,000 attendees from across the world are expected to attend the four-day programme comprising paper presentations\, roundtable discussions\, workshops\, book exhibition\, film exposition\, and panel sessions on a wide range of issues pertaining to the research and teaching of Asian affairs.\nEligibility\n1. The applicant must be a Malaysian citizen currently attached to a university or research institution in Malaysia. 2. The applicant must be a scholar equipped with a master’s degree or higher whose research theme is Japan-related. The applicant does not necessarily have to be a Japanese specialist\, and may belong to any discipline in the social sciences and humanities. 3. The applicant must be able to commit to the entire duration of the conference from 16 to 19 March\, 2017. 4. The applicant must be able to attend at least three Japan-related sessions at the conference.\nApplication Procedure\nPlease submit the following documents to info@jfkl.org.my by 9 December\, 2016. 1. Statement of Purpose (up to 2 pages)\nApplicants will be notified of results by early January 2017.\nParticipant Entitlements\nIn principle\, the items below will be provided through The Japan Foundation: 1. Up to USD 265 towards the conference registration fee 2. Up to USD 1\,500 towards airfare 3. Up to CAD 1\,350 towards accommodation\nSelection Criteria\nHigher priority will be given to: 1. Emerging scholars who are currently teaching about Japan at educational institutions 2. Scholars who will participate in the accepted panel sessions at the conference\nBasic Terms & Conditions\n1. The awardee is required to stay in the Toronto area from 15 to 20 March and attend the entire duration of the conference as well as the meetings scheduled by The Japan Foundation prior to and after the conference. 2. The awardee must submit a final report by 5 April\, 2017. 3. The awardee must obtain his or her own visa for entry to Canada. 4.
