The Japan Foundation Grant Programs 2008-09

The Japan Foundation (JF) cordially invites educational institutions, non-profit organizations, and individuals (for selected programs only) who are residing in Malaysia to apply for JF Grant Programs as follows:

Annual Grant Program

I. Arts and Cultural Exchange

  • Support Program for Translation and Publication on Japan (Eligibility: Organization)
  • Support Program for Film and TV Program Production on Japan (Eligibility: Organization)
    (Deadline 20 Nov 2007)
  • Exhibitions Abroad Support Program (Eligibility: Organization)
    (Deadline 3 Dec 2007)
  • Grant Program for Cultural Presentation Abroad (Eligibility: Organization/Individuals)
  • Grant Program for Cultural Cooperation (Eligibility: Organization/Individuals)
    (Deadline 3 Dec 2007, 1 May & 1 Sep 2008)

II. Japanese Studies Overseas and Intellectual Exchange Conference

  • Japan Foundation Japanese Studies Fellowship Program (Eligibility: Individual)
  • Grant program for Intellectual Exchange Conference (Eligibility: Organization)
  • Japanese-Language Programs for Researchers and Postgraduate Studies (Eligibility: Individual)

Small Grant Program

This program covers partial expenses for implementing intellectual activities and cultural events. The grant is awarded to projects, which can enhance understanding of Japan in social sciences and humanities or arts/cultural field, and further promote international collaborations through intellectual exchange activities. The offer is opened throughout the year. Interested applicants are required to submit a simple proposal (1-2pages) about the project to JFKL at least two months before the commencement date of the project. Guidelines Grantees List

Grant Program for Cultural Exchange at the Grass-roots Level

This program is designed to support overseas citizen/youth groups conducting international exchange projects through visiting Japan, with the objective of nurturing mutual understanding between Japan and abroad at the grass-roots level. Projects must be held before 31 March 2008, however application must be submitted at least two months before the commencement date of the project. Principally, this grant does not cover the following types of projects:

  • That are profit making, religious, or political activities in nature.
  • Whose themes are mainly in the fields of the natural sciences, or Japanese-language education
  • In which achievements will be credited only to specific groups / circles
  • That mainly involves tourism or home stay program.
